According to the BABOK Guide, elicitation is the process of drawing out, exploring, and identifying information relevant to the change. Elicitation helps the business analyst (BA) to obtain the information needed to understand the current state, define the future state, and determine the requirements for the change. If the BA needs to identify additional information after verifying the accuracy and consistency of the information obtained from the stakeholders, the BA should conduct elicitation activities to gather more information from the appropriate sources. Some of the elicitation techniques are brainstorming, document analysis, interviews, observation, prototyping, and workshops.
