NPIV (N_Port ID Virtualization) allows a single physical Fibre Channel port to register multiple worldwide port names (WWPNs) with a fabric. This is typically enabled on a full-featured Fibre Channel switch or director. NPV (N_Port Virtualization) simplifies the topology by forwarding FLOGI requests to an upstream NPIV-enabled switch. NPV does not participate in fabric services like zoning or name services and works like a pass-through.
