You can use the Custom instructions feature to tailor Microsoft 365 Copilot's behavior specifically for the medical or healthcare field. By configuring these settings, you ensure Copilot adopts a specific persona, tone, and formatting style across all your interactions without needing to repeat those requirements in every prompt.
How to Configure Custom Instructions
1. Access Settings: In the Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat interface (web, Teams, or Outlook), click the three dots (...) or the gear icon in the top-right corner.
2. Navigate to Personalization: Select Settings, then go to the Personalization tab.
3. Edit Instructions: Find the Custom instructions tile and select Edit instructions.
4. Define Your Field: Fill in the two main fields:
4a. What would you like Copilot to know about you?: Enter your role (e.g., "I am a clinical researcher" or "I am a general practitioner") and your area of expertise.
4b. How would you like Copilot to respond?: Specify the medical tone (e.g., "Use formal medical terminology," "Always provide citations from peer-reviewed sources," or "Format summaries as clinical SOAP notes").
5. Save: Select Save instructions to apply these preferences globally to your Copilot experience.
